Wow I really hate these and I find them repulsive on a few levels….
But I suppose in that way that art I think is sometimes supposed to provoke people. But I also have a thing against art ‘trends’, like this… the ‘creature’ thing is getting tired for me.
Alright! Now that I’m done channeling crabby art critic I think I’ll have some coffee.
The creature thing appeals to me on one level- I have a “lady bird”, but it reminds me more of a harpy- it’s an image that has been used in paintings practically forever. I do think that those ceramics are eerily similar, though.
What is weird, is that I was completely unaware that this was a “trend”. I just like it. Call me trendy, I guess.
To me, it looks like something Miss Havisham might have in her cellar. But then it’s already clear that when it comes to home decor I am a compleat idyit. So what do I know?
I’m with Dorian on this one.
Is this what winning T-Shirt designers from http://www.threadless.com graduate to?
Seriously though, interesting to look at, but not my style.
So what you’re saying is, bad idea for me to marry a squirrel?
What I make of it is…… someone joined etsy about a year later with a very similar concept. Some may say trend……. But I’ll tell you it’s hard to keep things unique when they get “borrowed” so quickly.
I began making these in 2003, in graduate school ( yup, grad school-not Threadless University). for fun and to trade with other artists. They make a nice, less labor intensive boost to my finances. The big fancy art is on the website. meganbogonovich.com
Hi, all — I sent this note to Megan and I’m going to go ahead and post it here:
Hi, Megan. Just wanted to send you a note that I saw the comment you left on my slightly neglected personal site. I absolutely love your work, I want you to know, and I think it’s obvious the other person is a pale competitor. I apologize if the post offended in any way, which was not my intention. I did link to you awhile back from Shelterrific — we get a LOT more readers than I do!
